Computer Protection: Repair & Optimization

Dealing properly with the aftermath of an infection or hacker

This section is dedicated for all of those other problems that can be solved with common remedies. While this section may not completely relate to security as the rest of this website does, it could help you cope with the after-effects of malicious software as well as any other problems you may be having with your computer. Once again, these are just common remedies used to solve computer problems. We am not making any guarantees that they will fix whatever problem(s) you may be having. Restart your computer: A lot of problems we deal with can be resolved by simply just restarting your computer.

  • Backtrack: If you are having problems with your computer, try to remember everything you did prior to the problems. Did you just install something? Maybe there was something you deleted? There are many times where programs (let alone your whole computer) may react to things you recently did on your computer. By backtracking all of the events you did prior to the computer glitch, you can figure out how to fix your problem(s).
  • Reinstall whatever you installed: There is always the chance that if a program of yours is not working properly that it may have become corrupted for whatever reason. Backup any files that may relate to that program, and try to reinstall it to see if it fixes your problem.
  • Make sure everything is plugged into your computer: We know this may sound ridiculous but, you wouldn't believe the amount of times that remedies to computer problems we ran into were because something got unplugged or was never plugged in the first place.
  • Disk Defragmentation: A lot of the reasoning behind slow-performing computers is because data clusters may have become corrupted over time (geek-speak we know, just stay with us). If you do a lot of installing, uninstalling and reinstalling, this could be your problem. Before you decide to do this on your computer, BACKUP ALL OF YOUR IMPORTANT FILES AND FOLDERS! There always is the possibility that your files may get corrupted in this process. Better be safe than sorry! To defrag your system, do the following:
    • Click Start, then All Programs
    • Put your mouse over the folder titled Accessories, then do the same thing with the folder System Tools
    • Click Disk Defragmenter
    • When the new window opens, highlight the drive(s) you want to defrag, then click the Defragment button.
  • If all else fails, do the research: If all else fails, go to your favorite search engine and either type in your problem or an exact error you encountered. Chances are that someone else has had that same problem and has confronted the Internet for help. There are many informative resources as well as people that are willing to help you through your problems.
