Officially being considered the ‘financial’ capital of the world, I am actually surprised that we don’t hear about more people stealing financial assets from London. While this article discusses someone using a DoS attack to simply overload the London Stock Exchange website, it’s really interesting that you don’t hear about people’s stock portfolio’s getting hacked into like they have been in the United States. Then again, just because I haven’t read anything on it doesn’t mean it never happened. If that is the case though, the stock exchanges local to the United States should take some pointers from London.
The London Stock Exchange (LSE) has been hit by an attack on its website that disrupted an alerts service used by more than 14,000 private investors for more than 48 hours.
Attackers set up hundreds of thousands of erroneous alerts - using a method similar to a denial of service attack - overloading the LSE website and disrupting the service for legitimate users.
The service sends alerts when a company in an investor’s portfolio makes a stock exchange announcement or when a share price moves outside set parameters.[more]
