The Thread of iPods

While it may sound strange, it is nothing less than true.  iPods, even after being available to the public for years are still a growing phenomenon.  And the newest place they are growing — the workplace.  Granted, iPods are a great way to bring your music anywhere you want, but that’s not all they’re good for.  Like USB sticks, iPods really can be used as portable storage devices, which can lead to things like data theft and the transfer of malware in the workplace.  Looks like it’s time to create some new policies specifically geared to transferable storage, including iPods…

Survey Says: iPods and other Portable Storage Devices are a Growing Threat in the Workplace.

Credant Technologies’ Survey on Portable Storage Devices asked 323 IT professionals about the potential security impact of iPods, USB flash drives and other devices in order to discover what security impact these new devices have on the workplace.

Surprisingly, although organizations see rapid growth in such device usage, few have a solution to prevent widespread data loss. The survey respondents were asked a series of questions and their responses are detailed in this enlightening report. [more]
