Looks like John Schiefer and some of his partners are now in quite a pickle and may face up to 60 years in prison for creating malware designed to take usernames and passwords stored on people’s computers. While the malware was designed to infect 250,000 systems, it would be interesting to know how many systems they were able to successfully infect before getting caught. Well, his account sniffer tool will probably lead him to do another kind of sniffing in prison, and that’s not in a good way either…
Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - A hacker faces up to 60 years in prison and nearly $2 million in fines after pleading guilty to using a botnet to steal from Paypal users.
Twenty-six-year-old John Schiefer said he, along with others, created a botnet able to infect up to 250,000 computers. Using the malware installed, Scheifer received usernames and passwords stored on the PCs. The information was also shared with other malicious hackers, PC World said.[more]
