Talk about a career killer. Surprisingly, the mistake of losing sensitive information on 25 million people didn’t lead to this man getting fired, let alone receiving a decrease in pay. You would think being the cause of potentially the largest identity theft scare’s in Britian’ history with pretty much everyone in a panic. You would think a job that pays over $380,000 a year in US would lead to some kind of consequence, but the person responsible for this is just retiring. I don’t even want to know what would happen if this incident occurred with someone in the US.
The man who quit over the lost data scandal is still on full salary and in line for an early retirement package.
Paul Gray, 59, resigned as chairman of the HM Revenue & Customs yesterday after two discs containing confidential details of 25 million people were lost.
It has led to the biggest fraud scare ever with virtually every family in Britain at risk from identity theft.
But the £190,000-a-year career civil servant, who was praised for quitting “as a matter of honour”, will not lose a penny, Whitehall sources predicted.[more]
