Now here is something that could cause a lot of damage: a hacker was able to break into a local ISP and cut all of it’s internet services to their customers. What’s scary is that this hacker is only a teenager. Fortunately from the sound of it, this ISP that got hacked is more of a local company, but just think if someone was able to do that on a larger scale like with the Comcast’s in the industry.
WISCONSIN RAPIDS - A teen accused of hacking into a computer system and shutting down Internet access to Marshfield for 18 hours has been sentenced to a 90-day jail term.
Shaun Lancaster, 18, of Berlin was granted work release privileges as part of his jail sentence on a charge of entering a computer system and causing damage.
He also was ordered to serve three years probation and pay restitution of just under $6,000.
The criminal complaint said Lancaster attempted last April 25 to gain access to a control console interface at a Solarus computer system station in Marshfield. The first attempt failed, but an attempt two minutes later was successful.[more]
