Even though this article was published on Valentines Day, you can’t help but to think that thieves are still getting victims to fall for this tactic.  Yeah, you guessed it… it’s the ol’ infected ecard trick.  Heck I’ll be honest, I received a few of them myself.  Fortunately, they went to a couple of my junk mail accounts so I knew right off the bat that they were no good.  Nonetheless though, there always is the idea of ‘belated Valentines’ (and you know that people think about that) which only means that theives can still take advantage of this opportunity, even after it has been about a week since Valentines Day.

At least two groups of would-be data thieves are attempting to infect computer users with fake electronic greeting cards for Valentine’s Day, security firms said this week.

The fraudsters behind the Storm worm, which gained a great deal of media attention over the past year, created a rudimentary attack by including a Valentine’s Day-oriented subject line and a link to a malicious executable file. While the attack may not convince many recipients to open the file, if they do, the program dodges some 19 of 31 security products, according to the Internet Storm Center, a network monitoring group.[more]
