Trend Micro jumps into securing the smart phone market
Published November 15th, 2006 in Good on the Net, Computer ProtectionNow is the time where we start seeing more and more security companies jumping on the bandwagon when it comes to smartphone security, which is a very good thing. It seems that Trend Micro is one of the newest groups to get involved with securing this new technology. Read below to hear about what they plan on doing.
Trend Micro, Incorporated (TSE: 4704, Nasdaq: TMIC), a leader in network antivirus and Internet content security software and services, today announced the addition of new security features within the award-winning Trend Micro(TM) Mobile Security. Trend Micro Mobile Security 3.0 adds protection against hackers and intrusions while improving on the previously available mobile malicious code protection for mobile malware and SMS spam.
IDC(1) expects converged mobile device shipments to reach nearly 100 million units in 2006 and the number of threats to these sorts of devices is increasing. These threats to date have been proof-of-concept attacks that are limited by weak propagation methods capabilities and a modest target device population. Given the growth in smartphone penetration and the increasing availability of WiFi networks coupled with faster download capabilities, the possibility of a more serious threat is increasing.
Trend Micro continues to focus and improve on delivering solutions that prevent would-be attackers getting inside the device and causing damage or disruption — whether through malicious code or hacking attempts. Trend Micro Mobile Security 3.0 helps “on the go” consumers and professionals protect themselves from malicious attackers attempting to acquire sensitive information by surreptitious means.[more]
All we can say is one thing: the more security companies that get involved in securing smart phones, the better. This is twofold; first, the companies can collaborate to quickly eliminate threats (as well as discover unique countermeasures that no one else has thought about) and two, the companies will be competing for your business, so the costs will be driven down. That sounds like good news if you ask us.
